What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a teaching method that applies the principles of learning theory to “improve socially significant behaviors to a meaningful degree” that is specific to the needs of the individual.  Reinforcement strategies and other principles of behavior are utilized to decrease problem behavior as well as increase desirable behaviors across environmental contexts.  ABA encompasses a variety of teaching methodologies.  For individuals with autism, much research has been done to establish methods that are evidence-based in nature.  This means, which methods are the “best” to use when teaching individuals with autism.  Click here to read more about this research.
